Memphis Women's Rugby

Women’s rugby is one of the fastest-growing sports in America. Our team has grown tremendously since its birth in 2004, and we’re still growing! Several Memphis area high school teams have started, and the Memphis Inner City Rugby program has been going strong for over 10 years now. Our team is here to supplement these efforts, helping recruit and grow the sport of rugby in the Memphis area.

For those of you who don’t know a lick about rugby, DON’T WORRY! Prior experience is a plus, but most new players have never played the game before. If you’ve played another sport before, you’ll find that many of the skills you’ve learned already will transfer over into rugby – we can teach you the rest.

The Memphis Women’s Rugby team, better known as The Flamingos, is a True South Senior Women’s Division DII Club team. We travel throughout the South to compete in rugby matches and contribute to the community by helping to grow the sport in schools and other programs in the Memphis area. Our club’s members come from all walks of life; from medical students to construction workers, engineers to social workers, artists, military, bartenders, attorneys, and more. We are a diverse group of women who find commonality on the pitch as one team, ready to play this sport that we love.

Game days are Saturdays, home and away, often scheduled alongside men’s and high school teams. These games bring out spectators, providing great exposure to the entire rugby community. We have a strong social media presence and are often featured on national blogs and websites and in local newsprint and web articles.
